The National Gallery on the north edge of Trafalgar Square is home to one of the foremost collections of Western European art in the world. Over 2,000 works of art hang on these walls and you can absorb an incredible breadth of art covering more than 700 years as you walk through these huge halls.

Right next door to this famous museum sits the equally imposing National Portrait Gallery. Even before you enter its vast doors you can stand on the balcony, sandwiched between enormous stone columns, looking out over Trafalgar Square. Crowds of people flock in and out, but relatively few take the time to stop and take in one of London’s busiest areas from this position. Enjoy it while others miss out.
