Around London’s famous Brick Lane and in the neighbouring areas of the East End, you can find a whole host of small and intriguing galleries displaying young and upcoming artists. Some of what is on display is a part of curated exhibitions; at other times these are simply galleries providing a public place for much of London’s creative heart. To be honest, the Brick Lane area is a bit misleading of us – it’s really quite a spaced-out band of galleries and spaces running from Angel down to Whitechapel.

There are really too many to mention them all here, but our favourites have to include the Victoria Miro gallery in Old Street, which hosts world-renowned artists as well as names that will be guaranteed to be new to you, the stylish White Cube in Hoxton Square, the Brick Lane Gallery, which is actually part of Saatchi’s expansive art interests and holds some excellent shows and the whole busy collection of teeny galleries that fill the otherwise dingy look Viner Street, just off Cambridge Heath Road.
