William Morris, the pre-eminent English designer famous for his wallpapers and textiles, lived in a large Georgian house in Walsthamstow between 1848 and 1856. The house itself now stands as the only museum dedicated to celebrating the life and works of Morris. Inside are fascinating original artefacts, ranging from an original copy of the Morris-illustrated Works of Geoffrey Chaucer to the satchel he used to carry his papers.

The gallery was subject to a cut in funding in 2007 and has had a fight on its hands to stay open subsequently. As a testimony to one of the most unique designers of his age, we’re delighted it continues to be there for the public.
