This rather oddly named building is actually London’s famous Gherkin building – its official title being the address at which it can be found. Designed by Norman Foster and completed in 2004, no one seems to be quite certain exactly how many panes of triangular glass the Gherkin has – despite its curved appearance, the only curved bit of glass is the cap at the very top.
Although it is principally used as office space, the Gherkin does have a bar and restaurant on the 40th floor which offers incredible views over London. This is normally reserved for tenants of the building, but do keep an eye out in case any opportunities arise for you to lay foot inside the building.
In the meantime, we wholeheartedly recommend a trip to the plaza in which it stands, if simply to look up in awe at what is one of the most impressive modern skyscrapers anywhere in the world.
